The (More Than) 52 Weeks Project

Jan 8, 2012

In July of 2010, I embarked on a new photo project where I aimed to take one creative self-portrait a week for one year. Fast forward one year and 6 months. Yep, I'm still trying to finish this damn project. Five more weeks to go. I can be the biggest procrastinator in the world sometimes. But on the bright side, I've done (in my humble opinion) some of my most creative work yet. Through my imagery, I've adopted a pet cloud, shrunken myself, blew up my head in a German field, and merged my face with my husband's face. Here's a quickie montage of some of my favorites.

So okay. It's 2012. Time to get my procrastinating butt in gear, and finish this project in a more timely manner. And not because I want to get this over with, but because I feel a renewed sense of inspiration and creativity. Like the other day, for example. I was doing laundry in the little shed behind my house, and I took a look around at all the dusty wooden shelves, and thought "I should totally shoot here! Why haven't I yet?" So I did.

You can read more about this image here on my flickr page, and you can see my entire set (thus far) here.

My goal is to finish this project in the exact same way that I started....full of creative energy, excitement, and purpose. Otherwise, what's the point?

Is anyone else doing a photography project this year? I'd love to see!

  1. Going to miss having someone pushing me for a new one.

So my 365 will just be a daily "what's going on in my life" but I really hope to pull out more soon.

  2. I am 4 shots shy of finishing my 365, and I am about 10 days over due so far! Once I finish this I am going to do a 52 week of self portraits, in addition to capturing every waking (and napping for that matter) moment of Sonora's life. She's 10 weeks old and has close to 300 pictures in her album...yeah I'm a little obsessed :)

  6. Sadly, your blog won't seem to let me comment with my name & url… it calls for an open ID, which doesn't seem to want to work for me. I feel like I was able to do it before. Not sure what's up with it now. Sometimes it does, but mostly no. So anyway, I will just sign in with my google account for now, but I think in the future I will probably refrain (I don't really want to broadcast any of my info other than my frolic blog stuff, and my google account links out to my old blog). I'm only mentioning it, in case you were unaware of the limiting settings. But I don't know how blogger works these things out anyway, wordpress makes it pretty easy to change and adapt those settings.

SOOOOOO, all this said, your shed is amazing and I am astonished you haven't shot there yet. i hope you do so more often in the future! Obviously I will be reading the blog, but within the current frameowrk probably not commenting. Too many hoops to jump through.

  7. Jasmine, I changed a few settings, although I'm not sure if it will fix the problem or not. Right now it's set that anyone can comment, not just registered users. So maybe that will help?

  8. I love your selflies. It takes so much courage to put yourself in front of the camera, you've done it so well!

I am resolving to take a photo a day on film so that I can look back on the month on a contact sheet. I thought that'd be so fun!
